Il progetto ERC CoG REDMIX – Unpacking Mixedness for an Inclusive History of the Red Sea, 1800s-2000s – diretto da Valentina Fusari presso il Dipartimento di Studi Storici dell'Università di Torino, esplora le storie inedite di persone di origine mista che hanno plasmato il tessuto sociale, demografico, economico e politico del Mar Rosso tra il XIX e il XXI secolo.
Attraverso l'esame di archivi privati e pubblici, collezioni di famiglia e fondi bibliotecari, la ricerca ricostruisce le traiettorie di vita che rivelano come queste persone abbiano contribuito alla vibrante storia del Mar Rosso. Andando oltre i tradizionali schemi geopolitici, il progetto re-immagina la regione come uno spazio dinamico di scambio, dove connessioni e identità si sono costantemente evolute oltre i confini geopolitici.
Grazie al suo approccio innovativo, lo studio offre nuove prospettive sul Mar Rosso, sull'appartenenza e sulla memoria storica in uno dei crocevia più significativi del mondo.

The ERC CoG REDMIX project – Unpacking Mixedness for an Inclusive History of the Red Sea, 1800s-2000s, led by Valentina Fusari at the Department of Historical Studies at the University of Turin, explores the untold stories of mixed-ancestry people who shaped the social, demographic, economic, and political fabric of the Red Sea between the 19th and 21st centuries. By examining private and public archives, family collections, and library holdings, the research reconstructs life trajectories that reveal how these people contributed to the Red Sea's vibrant history. Moving beyond traditional geopolitical frameworks, the project reimagines the region as a dynamic space of exchange, where connections and identities constantly evolved across borders. Through its innovative approach, the study offers new perspectives on the Red Sea, belonging, and historical memory in one of the world's most significant crossroads.
